Francis “Fritz” Schwindt

Francis “Fritz” Schwindt is truly an unsung hero in his community. Before he retired in 2002, he faithfully served the Bis-Man community by working tirelessly on the Mandan Remediation project, even now he sits as an independent voice for the Mandan Remediation Trust, continuing to share his wisdom with community leaders. He volunteers his time with AARP to assist low (and moderate) income people file their taxes at no cost to them. He recruits, trains, and works alongside volunteers to provide this service to residents in Bismarck/Mandan. He also is amazingly dedicated to helping the local non-profit Rebuilding Together complete countless projects for low income, disabled, and elderly homeowners. He dedicates his time serving on the Board of Directors for Rebuilding Together Bismarck/Mandan. Fritz’s efforts have enabled the organization to serve so many more families throughout the years. Last year alone, Fritz and his band of trusty helpers provided repairs to 20 homeowners around Bismarck and Mandan. He meets each task with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. Fritz is a rare gem and an amazing asset to our community. It is an honor to nominate Fritz as a Hometown Hero.
